Competitive Hours + Paid Prep Time

HESS offers a starting wage of NT$650–700 per teaching hour based on experience and qualifications, allowing you to save money and pay off your student loans easily. No set office hours or additional in-school time means having the freedom to do your class preparations in the comfort of your home or accommodations.

A stipend of NT$3,000 per month is provided for lesson preparations and other teaching-related duties. In addition, in keeping with HESS’ preferred class size of 9 to 20 students, teachers are compensated with a higher hourly rate for additional students enrolled per class when class sizes exceed 20 students.

Universal Health Insurance

Help is provided for the application of the national health insurance coverage after teachers receive their HESS-sponsored resident visa. A teacher’s portion of the health care payment (NT$300–500 per month) is automatically deducted and allows a teacher access to affordable access to Taiwan's well-equipped health system, including dental, eye care, and traditional Chinese medicine.

Guaranteed Teaching Hours

The initial workload is light and is gradually increased to help teachers ease into their new job in the first month. A minimum of 20 teaching hours per week, averaged monthly, guarantees that all teachers receive a base salary. Our flexible schedules allow teachers to take on additional classes to meet different financial needs.

Raises and Contract Bonuses

Teachers are appraised and given raises on a yearly basis. Raises apply to the hourly pay rate up to NT$40/hour, depending on performance and professionalism. A maximum pay rate of NT$800 per hour is possible after four to five years of good appraisals.

HESS offers two types of contract bonuses beyond this. Teachers can receive NT$10,000 in their 18th month’s pay for renewing their contract for another year. An additional NT$15,000 will be given as a contract completion bonus in the 24th month after completion of the second year-long contract.

The contract completion bonuses will be increased at the end of the third year to NT$20,000 and again to NT$30,000 at the end of every year thereafter. The longer you teach with us, the more you will be paid!

Performance Bonuses

Teachers receive a scaled bonus every time a class advances to the next level if more than 90% of the students return. The amount of the bonus varies between courses, with a maximum of NT$50,000 per year. On average, most teachers earn an extra NT$10,000 per year from this bonus.

Zero Interest Set-up Loan

We understand that there is a sizable start-up cost for starting anew, so HESS offers an optional interest-free start-up loan to new teachers. The maximum amount is NT$30,000 per person, with a six-month repayment period. Many of our teachers use this loan for such things as settling into new accommodations.
