Our Journey Through the Years
1983
We open our first HESS language school.
1987
HESS Publishing begins producing HESS materials for our schools, as well as public and private schools in Taiwan, China, Japan, and other Asian countries.
1990
Our first HESS Bookstore opens its doors.
1997
We open our first HESS preschool.
1998
We establish HESS Foundation, a non-profit arm to help the underprivileged in Taiwan, is established.
2004
Our first school outside of Taiwan opens in Singapore.
2012
Looking to broaden our horizons, we open schools in China and Korea.
2019
Seeing great potential, we bring the HESS experience to Vietnam.
About Us
HESS International Educational Group was established in 1983 in Taipei, Taiwan. Our three pillars are integrity, dependability, and innovation. We have been focusing on promoting global cultures and languages, starting from teaching English and Chinese to elementary school students, to our ever-expanding range of courses for preschoolers, junior high school students, and adults.
We have broadened our educational and cultural philosophy to include overseas study programs, bookstores, publishing, educational research and development, and educational charitable activities. Our next venture is sharing the HESS education experience with the rest of world, and we have started our journey with schools in Singapore, China, Korea, and Vietnam.
HESS Educational Foundation
Give Back and Show You Care
The HESS Educational Foundation was established in 1998 with the aim of providing better educational opportunities for Taiwan’s underprivileged, disadvantaged, and indigenous children. Our dedicated HESS and local university volunteers have enabled us to conduct free annual English summer camps for children in various remote areas.
Our foundation strives to be a positive source of hope and energy for society by providing educational subsidies to families in need, putting on reading and study lectures at HESS bookstores, and organizing family-friendly mountain hikes in Taiwan’s beautiful mountain ranges.
Get Involved!
- You can make a difference by volunteering in activities such as helping teach children with special needs, leading camps for aboriginal students, and co-teaching classes for orphans and children from underprivileged families. Why not try leading or participating in school and countrywide donation drives for Christmas presents, or joining school groups in mountain hiking excursions?
- We have been fulfilling our mission of providing educational enrichment with the help of native-speaking university students and native English teachers like you!

Share Your Knowledge and Make an Impact
Teaching and curriculum development go hand-in-hand at HESS.
We started the HESS Publishing Company in 1987 to produce a variety of educational materials for learners of all ages.
All of our materials are created in-house, ensuring the most comprehensive and effective learning experience for students.
To maintain the highest standard of quality, HESS Publishing collaborates with our team of professional, multinational writers and editors at the HESS Educational Research Department. Our extensive catalog of published titles, educational materials, and curricula are used by public and private educational institutions throughout Asia.
HESS Bookstore
Read, Learn, and Teach
Reading goes hand-in-hand with education.
We opened our first HESS Bookstore in 1990 to provide readers with a wealth of educational, family, health, and children’s books. We also carry an extensive selection of periodicals; books in Chinese, English, and Japanese; as well as stationery for all types of interests and age groups.
Public educational seminars and author book talks are often held at our various HESS Bookstores, as well as our Family Reading Club, which promotes education through reading for the whole family.
HESS Bookstores are proud to be associated with retail outlets, such as the National Palace Museum Gift Shop.
