Kaohsiung is Taiwan’s 2nd biggest and most Southern city. It has all the amenities of a big city, but a tropical pace of life. Winters are warmer and drier than in the north, so it never gets as cold. This place is a great option for people that want a city life but are not looking for something as crowded as Taipei.
With a population of over 2.7 million, Kaohsiung has all you would want in a big city; many museums, variety of restaurants, lively nightlife, and even a metro system. While the metro system does cover some areas of the city, most teachers still decide to get a scooter.
The cost of living in Kaohsiung is quite reasonable for a big city, and noticeably cheaper than Taipei. Most teachers have their mornings off and teach in the afternoon and evenings, so this gives teacher time to explore in the morning. With so many interesting corners in Kaohsiung, life is never boring.
